File Types : PDF
One common file type you may encounter, especially in e-mails, is PDF. PDF (Portable Document Format) is a standard document type developed by Adobe that allows the publisher to format the document, even with special fonts, and it will disply as the publisher intended. If a Word document was used, there may be compatibility issues, and the formatting may be different.
PDFs are searchable, and are commonly used for forms which can be filled out directly on the computer and printed. They are often used by real estate agents and other professionals.
The most common program that is used to read PDFs is Adobe Reader. Adobe Reader often comes preinstalled on computers, and it is commonly installed with other software.
My preferred sotware, though, is Foxit Reader. It's smaller and loads faster. There have also been issues in the past with Adobe Reader updates going haywire.
